Engineered Wood Flooring Brands in Romania: 2026 Comparison
Barlinek, Kährs, Parador, Tarkett and Boen are engineered wood flooring brands present in Romania. They differ in the thickness of the hardwood layer, the finish, the warranty and the technical documentation, not in the logo. The warranty also depends on the space: Barlinek gives 30 years in homes and 5 years in public buildings.
SelfDezign
Wood flooring for a commercial space?
SelfDezign designs residential, commercial, hospitality, office and clinic interiors to order and coordinates the build.
At a glance
- Barlinek publishes its warranty certificate in Romanian: 30 years in residential spaces and 5 years in public buildings.
- Kährs and Parador publish environmental information (EPD declarations), useful when a project asks for sustainability data.
- STP, a Spanish manufacturer, offers chevron and mosaic formats with a glue-free installation system. Confirm availability in Romania with the manufacturer.
- A good brand does not save a wrong choice: traffic resistance, underfloor heating and the option to refinish decide more than the name on the box.
- The warranty is easy to lose: installation, the heating-up protocol and care products must follow the manufacturer's instructions.
What you are actually buying with engineered wood flooring
Engineered wood flooring looks like solid wood on the surface but behaves differently. Think of it as a well-built sandwich: the wood you see and touch sits on top, and the layers that keep everything flat sit underneath. In the three-layer version, the typical structure has a hardwood top layer of 2.5 to 4 mm, a middle layer of spruce or pine strips and a wood backing layer that resists warping.
This construction gives better dimensional stability than solid wood when humidity and temperature change. Tarkett describes engineered wood flooring as built from three layers of wood with the grain turned at 90 degrees, supplied as ready-to-install boards.
This is where the first confusion we often see comes from: people compare engineered wood brands with laminate or SPC brands as if they were the same product. They are not. Laminate has a printed image of wood, SPC is a mineral core with a vinyl layer, and engineered wood has real wood on the surface. If you are still at this step, we explained the differences separately in laminate vs engineered wood flooring and in LVT vs wood flooring.
Which engineered wood flooring brands can you find in Romania?
Barlinek
Barlinek, a Polish manufacturer from Kielce, has a local website in Romanian. Its engineered wood flooring is organised in the Classico Line, Senses, Tastes of Life, Pure Line, Decor Line and Life Line collections, and the range also includes hybrid and SPC flooring.
Barlinek publishes its warranty certificate, a useful document in a project. It gives 30 years for products installed in residential spaces and 5 years for those in public buildings. The warranty does not apply in public spaces with very heavy traffic, such as airports or production halls. The difference matters if you are fitting out a café or a clinic: the same board has different cover depending on where it ends up.
Kährs
Kährs is a Swedish wood flooring manufacturer, founded in 1857 according to the company's website. ePardoseli lists Kährs products for the Romanian market. The residential warranty differs by collection, so confirm it against the exact product code. Kährs publishes environmental declarations (EPDs), created under ISO 14025 and verified by a third party. An EPD for the 14 mm Kährs flooring lists Romania as its country.
For offices or commercial spaces where the investor asks for sustainability data, an available EPD shortens the specification discussion considerably.
Parador
Distributors in Romania sell Parador flooring. For the Harmonia series, for example, the product sheet from the distributor Romtec Invest states for the Oak Sensus Acorn variant an oak top layer of 3.6 mm, suitability for underfloor heating, a warranty of 25 years in residential use and 10 years in commercial use, an EPD and the Blue Angel certification. So with Parador, as with Barlinek, the commercial warranty is shorter than the residential one.
Tarkett
Tarkett has a local website in Romanian and engineered wood flooring in its range. Tarkett's Romanian page describes the three-layer wood construction and the T-lock joint system, and mentions more than 150 designs in 6 types of wood. Look for current collections and technical sheets on the same site.
Boen
ePardoseli lists Boen among the key manufacturers of three-layer engineered wood flooring, alongside Barlinek. Ask for the warranty and the technical sheet in the quote, for the exact product code.
STP Wood Flooring (Spain)
STP is a Spanish manufacturer based in Vila-real, Castellón, that presents plank series, chevron and mosaic formats, with a core of birch plywood layers and the glue-free LockSTP system. Confirm availability in Romania with the manufacturer or a distributor. If the floor is an element of identity in your concept, not just a background, STP deserves a place on the shortlist.
Quick-Step and Kaindl: watch what you compare
Quick-Step Romania's website presents laminate and SPC vinyl flooring. Kaindl presents its range of boards, laminate and SPC flooring, with a design centre in Salzburg. If you have already decided on natural wood at the surface, compare products from the same category.

For brands where the warranty is "check by collection", ask for the warranty certificate for the exact product code before ordering. It is the only document that counts in a claim.
How to choose by type of space
The brand is the second question. The first is what the floor has to withstand: a quiet living room, a restaurant floor with hundreds of steps a day, or a reception that must inspire trust.
Homes
In a house or an apartment you have the most freedom. Comfort, colour, format and compatibility with underfloor heating matter here. The longest warranties in the documents we read (30 years at Barlinek, 25 at Parador Harmonia) are for residential use. If you have underfloor heating or are considering it, also read our guide on wood flooring or tiles on underfloor heating.
Hospitality and commercial spaces
Traffic changes everything. The FloorDepot guide, written for laminate, places shops and public areas in traffic class 33, and very busy spaces such as clinics, schools and airports in class 34. For engineered wood, treat these classes only as a guide and ask for the product's technical sheet and commercial warranty. For offices, showrooms and hospitality, the Kulttur guide gives usual thicknesses of 12 to 14 mm, with a serious wear layer that allows refinishing later.
One more detail many people miss: the warranty. With Barlinek, for example, the same floor has 30 years at home and 5 years in a public building. For a restaurant or café, the maintenance and refinishing plan is part of the budget, not a surprise cost. We detail the logic of the choice in the materials guide for commercial spaces.
Offices
In offices, the floor works with acoustics, with furniture on wheels and with the company's image. Chairs on casters are the quiet enemy of wood: the Barlinek conditions of use make felt under furniture legs and protective mats under chairs with wheels mandatory. If the project also needs sustainability reporting, the EPDs published by Kährs or Parador become a concrete argument.
Medical clinics and practices
In medical spaces, wood belongs in the areas where patients need warmth and calm: reception, the waiting room, the doctor's office. Treatment areas have their own hygiene and maintenance requirements, and the floor there is chosen according to the applicable rules, not for looks. We explain how we split these zones in a real project in the clinic fit-out guide.
What to check on the technical sheet before ordering
The technical sheet is the recipe, not the list of ingredients. Two suppliers can sell "natural oak, 14 mm", yet the products can be very different. Check, in this order:
- Thickness of the hardwood layer. A layer of 2.5 to 4 mm decides how many times you can sand and refinish the floor over time.
- Core construction. Three-layer with a spruce or pine core, or multilayer plywood backing: both work, but they behave differently at installation and under load.
- Finish. Lacquered or oiled. Lacquer needs less daily care, while oil is easier to repair locally. Brushed and matt lacquered finishes hide signs of wear better.
- Use class. Residential or commercial, with the traffic resistance suited to the space.
- Compatibility with underfloor heating. Do not assume it: confirm it in the product documentation and follow the heating start-up protocol.
- Warranty conditions. With Barlinek, not following the installation instructions, including a missing underfloor heating protocol, or unsuitable care products lead to loss of the warranty.
- Behaviour in light. Wood changes colour under UV rays, and the manufacturer treats this as a characteristic of the material, not a defect. Keep it in mind if you have large south-facing windows.
Execution matters as much as the product. We wrote about what the works warranty covers, separate from the material warranty, in the warranty on interior fit-out works.
Why prices differ between brands
The price of engineered wood flooring does not follow the brand alone. A few factors push it up or down, and you can compare them directly between quotes:
- Wood species and grade: oak with few knots costs more than rustic grades.
- Thickness of the top layer: more wood at the surface means more possible refinishes and a higher price.
- Format: chevron, herringbone and very wide boards need more material and more labour at installation.
- Finish and treatments: brushed, smoked, hand-oiled.
- Availability: local stock or made to order with a delivery time, which matters a lot in a hospitality opening schedule.
Prices change often and promotions are temporary, so ask for the current quote for the exact product code, with labour, adhesive or underlay and skirting included. Only then can you compare two options fairly.
The SelfDezign view
The brand is only the vocabulary. The concept of the space builds the sentence.
In a café, the floor has to withstand traffic, be refinishable without closing the venue for a week, and support the atmosphere your brand promises. In a clinic, the wood in reception must inspire trust and calm, while treatment areas follow other rules. In a home, the same oak board can look cold or warm depending on light, furniture and the relationship with the walls.
That is why we never start from the catalogue. We start from the context: who uses the space, how intensively, what it must communicate and what maintenance budget exists in the long term. Only then do we choose the material, check the technical sheet and follow the installation on site, so that the warranty stays valid.
A well-chosen floor is not noticed as a choice. It feels like a natural part of the space.
The SelfDezign team
When it is worth choosing together with a designer
If you are fitting out a commercial space, a hospitality venue, an office or a clinic, the choice of floor is tied to the concept, the budget and the execution. At SelfDezign we work precisely on this link: concept, technical design and coordination of the build. A commercial interior design project costs 25 to 55 EUR/m², and a residential one 20 to 40 EUR/m². If you only need a clear decision on materials, a consultation with written conclusions costs 500 lei per session. For entrepreneurs in the diaspora opening a venue in Romania, there is a remote hospitality consultation, from 450 EUR per session.
